Video: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Audio: 'Human' by The Killers I hope you enjoy this video. At first blush, this song seems directly at odds with the video chosen to accompany it. However, what does it truly mean to be human? Is it just a physical form? Is it just one species? Or can the fundamental concept of Human be applied more broadly. This is a theme that is woven through Science Fiction of course. The song itself delves into this concept. In this context, human is not a form, but a state of being. Being Human, in this song, refers to living and being who and what you are, unlike the concept of Dancer, wherein one is a puppet bound by strings made by ones submission to external forces. We see this, too, in My Little Pony. When Discord ensares the Ponies, are they truly themselves, or are they just Dancer, moving according to external will? The physical body is the same, if a bit monochromatic. They possess the same memories and genetics. Physically, they remain little different. But they respond differently, and we know them to be 'wrong' at some fundamental level. Thus, this song and this show both explore these themes of Humanity and Self.
