I've been in love with The Strokes for a long time now. They have to be my favorite group of musicians high up on that list next to the great Sufjan Stevens. FUCK I love this band.
Anyways this is my cover of Someday; one of The Strokes' early hits from 2001.
I wanted to a cover of this at some point before, but I've just never been able to get the sound correct. It'd either be too muddy or shitty to be usable in a final mix, so I abandoned the thought of it for quite a while. Then recently, I walked into a music shop with just enough money to buy some guitar footswitches that I've wanting to use for a long time. Putting that alongside the Mexican Fender Stratocaster I had bought weeks before, I wanted to put everything to the test in a full mix. This started out as a little test to see if I could replicate the guitar tone of the original, and it eventually just snowballed into a recording of the entire song. I'm really proud of how it turned out, and I'm just glad I get to play more electric guitar with a tone I can actually enjoy jamming to. Might do some more Strokes covers. There's a lot on "Is This It" I really want to do.
