Thanks and stuff below. Better quality version here: http://soundcloud.com/theodrixx/all-that-glitters I suggest watching WITHOUT annotations first. This is an original piece that I was inspired to compose by two people. One of them is AcousticBrony, who had the same idea as I did (writing theme pieces for each Mane 6 pony) but beat me to the punch by actually writing and uploading four of them before i even got started. :P The other is William Anderson, who I believe does the music for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Composers like him do such great work and it goes largely underappreciated. However, if you really take the time to listen to all the sounds and little themes he's written, you'll have to appreciate how much he contributes to the world of MLP:FiM. Anyway, if you pay attention, you'll notice that I've borrowed what seems to be his motif for Rarity (the harpsichord/clavichord quarter dotted quarter eighth repeated) and inserted it between gaps in the melody. Actually my piece owes a whole lot to this little ditty. The 3/4 time signature, as well as the pulse and rhythm of the melody were taken from the motif. My vision for this piece was something vaguely exotic (perhaps European), very classy, but with a suggestion of tension. I think I succeeded, in part; it sounds very... French (chromatic cascades with violin helped with this), and the minor key and the instrumentation lend it a very noble flavor. I hope you'll feel the tension I've tried to instill in this piece. I am not a professional! In fact, this is my amateur composing debut. I have no composing experience, nor training. I took a music theory class, but that's about it. Feel entirely free to criticize, especially if you know more about composing than I do. I could use pointers.
