Tl;dr time!! Mixit is a sample manipulation challenge in which users pool together a sample pack during the first week of each month, using the remainder of the month to produce music using ONLY the samples in that month's pack -- no other samples, instruments, synths, or recordings are allowed, but participants are free to manipulate the samples in any way they like. The challenge originated at EM411.com, but disappeared overnight when the site was revamped under new management. My dad took up the helm, hosting the challenge on his own forum for years, until participation dried up a few years ago. His Mixit site was where I learned the majority of my music production skills, and was a lot of fun to boot, so I really hated to see it go. At the beginning of March 2017, I launched a Discord server and put out several open invitations to join a new Mixit Challenge. I was pleasantly surprised to get a lot of people to join and participate, and April 1st will see the release of the first 2017 Mixit compilation album at http://mixitchallenge.bandcamp.com/ This track will serve as an intro to both the album and the challenge as a whole. It features nearly every sample in the pack, to give an idea of what we had to work with. Also on the 1st will be the opening of sample submissions for the April Mixit cycle, and I'd like to once again extend an open invitation to any musicians, regardless of skill level or genre preferences, to join us at http://discord.gg/FRUMyzb
