Existential 18 is another song that I have an acoustic demo for and that shows up in a compilation video. Now it's been recorded with an electric. I remember when I started writing this song. It originally was just a basic chord progression I use to play, nothing special. One night, however, I had a depressive episode and like an idiot decided to drink. The original rough draft was nearly incoherent but the drunk notes I had written down lead to me shifting the song toward Apple Bloom. Really this song is the one that started the idea of Apple Bloom suffering from severe depression. This song lead me to write "The Tenth British Rhythm" and "Run, Run, Run!". In this song Apple Bloom appears to be making a plea to her dead parents, but that isn't exactly what it means. Mother is used as a metaphor to represent alcohol, prescription medication, and over all substance abuse. Anything to alter the current feelings, whether for better or worse. Father is a metaphor for death, suicide, and self harm. Lyrics: Mother please, come to me I can't sleep, fear to dream Father take away the pain I wanna go where the angels reign Granny won't last, her bed is nigh Please don't wait for her to die Mother numb, make me brave Father cut, drain my veins Mother please, come to me I can't sleep, fear to dream Father take away the pain I wanna go where the angels reign Brother, he's gone. This I know He found love, left me alone Mother numb, make me brave Father cut, drain my veins Mother please, come to me I can't sleep, fear to dream Father take away the pain I wanna go where the angels reign Sister makes me medicate I'll down a fifth, drown my hate Friends don't know well crusade this I'll grab a knife, slit my wrist
